A blog about decorating a home beautifully on a budget

New Addition To The Family Room

April 28, 2012 By Sherry

Do you remember me saying I wasn’t buying anything new until our
house sold and we got moved?
I tried…. I really did!
I was doing well keeping this promise until I found a pair of
antique capitals.  Antique salvage has always been a love of mine and I
couldn’t leave the store without them.   Plus,  the price was fabulous.
Here is one of the capitals holding an antique olive jar and fern.

The other capital is in the corner with the green pot and palm tree.
My plan is to eventually place both of them on a long table with
matching urns. The urns will be a future purchase.
I have been cleaning out and selling things I don’t use.  A local consignment sale
sold $1500 of my decorative accessories in just one week.
I was a happy consignor!
The Open House Party will resume the evening of May 2.
Please email me if you are interested in having your home
featured at the party.
Have a great weekend.
xo, Sherry

I don't blame you one bit, my friend…the architectural pieces are gorgeous! By the way…I love your old olive jar as well!

How are you doing, Sherry? I hope that my note is finding you and your family doing well!

Sounds like your spring cleaning is going great! Lucky you to have a consignment shop. There isn't one in my little town…I have been using eBay but the shipping is a major pain. Your photos (and those hardwood floors) are just beautiful. Happy Weekend!

Oh how fabulous. I love the capitals, they are a great find. Great job on selling your things. That always makes you feel so good to have things purged and then some money from them too. Congrats. Hugs, Marty

Oh Sherry, you didn't buy anything "new" now did you? They look old to me πŸ™‚
A little splurge on something so wonderful seems like a good trade with the "stuff" you got out of the house. Happy Weekend~

Not buying anything doesn't mean passing up vintage pieces that you won't be able to find again at that price. Seriously! ~ Maureen

Lovely pieces, Sherry! I tried the same thing, but I wound up buying stuff, too. : ) I was glad to make some money from some furniture I had put on Craigs List {especially our pool table} when we were selling. A lot of little things wound up getting donated.

Bet that consignment store gets giddy when they see you coming with your goodies. They could host a sale on a Saturday featuring just you and the shoppers would line up.

Oh I love your capitals! Those can be hard to find so that was a great purchase. I can't believe how much money you made at the consignment store. Lucky you!! You must've had some nice stuff to sell. Wish I could've gotten to shop there! I sell my stuff at a consignment store too and am always thankful to make money on stuff I'm not using anymore.

Sherry,My take on this is that your new purchase isn't taking up any room, so go ahead and justify it! I like architectural pieces, too. Glad you had good luck with your consignments. πŸ™‚

    Sherry,

I understand 100% how you feel, I have the same problem, when I say I don't want to buy things yet for my home, but there is always something we find that we can't say no to. Don't feel bad, and feel great for the nice shopping you did. The jars are amazing.

I know what you are going through, since we just sold our house and moved. Now we are renting for a year while we decide if we want to build or buy another home. It is very hard not to buy something (like the painting I just posted about today) when the price is right and you really love it.

    I love your pieces….

They are wonderful and so glad youy got them! I have searched for a consignment store near us and can't find ANY!!!! Well, one I found but they only do baby apparel and things like strollers etc.:(:( YOu made a HAUL, girl! My Goodwill is LOVING me….I wish I could make some money! We just got a POD to pack all of the things I have packed so far plus shelf units and seasonal decorations, plus all the train room stuff!!!! XO, Pinky PS, we had a "stager" come in (the realtor paid for it) and she wants me to practically empty the house to show it:(:(

Hi Sherry, how did the weekend go? Having Penny here was just like having a baby to care for only I think a baby would have been easier. At least a baby wears a diaper and a puppy you have to take outside every 15 minutes. She did real well though and was such a sweetie. xo
