I love the tall ceilings in our new home but they have created quite a problem when buying window treatments. You may remember the dilemma I had finding curtains for our bedroom here. Even the glass doors are all custom sizes and nothing ready made will fit.
The previous owners had custom roman shades installed in the kitchen, though the fabric color just wasn’t right for our decor. After getting quotes of $600+ for two shades I knew I had to come up with a DIY solution.
I found a great tutorial on recovering roman shades over at Home Stories A to Z and it is NO SEW!
The only thing I did differently was to cut and remove the existing burgundy fabric. This way my new fabric was attached to the existing white lining and no worries about the dark fabric showing through. If you have standard size windows you can also buy new shades pretty inexpensively and recover them in your choice of fabric.
Here is the new look…
Did you notice the old light fixture that came with the house? It was a happy day when we got the new chandelier hung. There are still lights waiting to be hung for the guest bath and the foyer.
I am a sucker for anything damask and I couldn’t believe this fabric was at Walmart for $6.99 yd? I didn’t even know they carried drapery weight fabric until I went looking for thread.
