Creating a Mediterranean Courtyard

The last few weeks we have been working on the courtyard trying to give it more of a Mediterranean look.  We cleared out some of the wild ferns that had taken over, added pebbles and installed the new lions head fountain.  We purchased the fountain at Rennigers Antique Extravaganza.

The antique iron gate is from a 1920s Palm Beach mansion that was torn down. We added the gate to both sides of the french doors leading to the courtyard from the master bedroom.  The iron window guard reminded me of ones I saw while in Italy.   A little black spray paint was all it needed.

The courtyard really needs a rug to break up the large expanse of painted concrete floor.   I have had several outdoor rugs that never dry out and end up covered in mildew.   My next project is to paint a rug using the stencil I won from Cutting Edge via One Thousand Oaks.   I chose the Segovia Stencil since it looks similar to Italian tile.   This will have to wait until the temperature drops below 90 degrees!

I have wanted an outdoor kitchen for such a long time.  This will soon become a reality thanks to plans found on Pinterest.  We already have a really nice and large stainless grill with side burners. This surround looks simple enough for us to build.  I would build it wider so there is more work space.   Can you believe this is faux stone panels and so easy to install.

Seating for at least eight people will be added to the courtyard in the near future.  Most of our entertaining happens in the courtyard and our current set just isn’t large enough for all our guest. My dream courtyard would include this beautiful outdoor wicker sectional and chair  by Arhaus.

I’ll keep you updated as we make progress with the courtyard.  Thanks for dropping by!

Hugs,
Sherry

  1. Good Afternoon Sherry, Your Mediterranean Courtyard is coming a long nicely. I love the lion's head water fountain.
I have a Bacchus water fountain, which gently trickles with water during the summer months. One time I looked out of my kitchen window to see a blackbird was having a shower underneath the trickle of water. I really could not believe my eyes. I have to say I have only ever seen this once…. but I was mesmerized.
You sound like you are having so much fun creating your courtyard.
    Have a lovely weekend.
    Best Wishes
    Daphne

  2. I love your plans for your courtyard! You're so lucky to have a good place to entertain. I like the mediterranian style you're going with. It will be perfect out by the pool. An outdoor kitchen would be the perfect finishing touch too! Can't wait to see it once it's ready for its reveal.
