Decorating Dilemma Part II

Please drop by and  enter  my giveaway for a vintage amber necklace from Providence Ltd.

Thank you all so much for your advise on  reupholstering  my Bergere style chair. I have decided to have someone that knows what they are doing make the cushions and I will tackle the rest.  Some of you suggested taking a class and I have found one in my area.  It starts in February and runs for three months. I am planning on signing up but I don’t want to wait until April for a finished chair. I am sure I will come up with another project to work on by then.

I am in the process of redecorating our living room.  So far we have painted the chocolate brown walls left from the previous owner and removed the valances. Here are my plans for this room:

Upholster Bergere chair
Add window treatments
Love seat to shop
Two gold chairs to DIL
End tables to shop
New Lamps
Buy white slip covered sofa

Here are the things that are staying in the room:

Antique French armoire
Rug
Mirror
Two French style stools
Design Dilemma Part II
Fabric choices
Choice #1  White fabric to match the sofa. Possibly Linen and throw pillows with red?
Or…

Choice #2  Red and white buffalo check
Maybe even combining the red check + toile like this chair.
I don’t remember where I got this picture but I loved the chair. If it is yours please let me know and I will make sure to credit you.
I am also open to any suggestions on other fabric choices. Keep in mind the sofa I plan on buying will be slip covered in white and this room sits directly across from our dining room. I know you have seen the dining room a million times but here is a reminder of the fabric, drapes and rug color.

I know there are some great Design Divas out there and I need your help!
Any suggestions or advice?
Thanks so much.

  1. Hi Sherry,
You have so many beautiful pieces and your style and taste is exquisite. I think I like the idea of the red/white check with toile for your chairs.
I think it will add a touch of fun to your room.

I'm sure you will make the right choice.

  2. Sherry, I love the red check with toile idea a lot. That would look so good with a white sofa. Do you have a sofa picked out. I love the Pottery Barn one. We have had it five years and it is still like new. They cost more than the Ikea ones but are made better, too. Can't wait to see your finished room.

  3. Hi Sherry, well I'm partial to the white for the chair, here's the reason, we know it will never go out of style and You'll never tire of it. You can add a pop of color or pattern with a pillow. A Buffalo Check Pillow, or the Toile. Either way, it's a base, and so romantic that way.

  4. Your room is so beautiful already….I can't wait to see all the changes you have planned! My vote is for the red check/toile for the bergere chair. I think it will tie in nicely with the drapes in your dining room :o)

  5. Sherry,
Your furnishings are just beautiful! I LOVE the rug! I think the chair upolstered in the red french check and toile would be perfect, especially against the white sofa.

Also I think the red fabric would look gorgeous with the blue transferware on the walls!

You have such exquisite taste, I'm sure your final decision will be fabulous.
Please show us when you are done!

  6. Sherry, you never cease to amaze me. That room is drop dead gorgeous like it is. But we all know that leaving things as they are just is not an option for people like us. Ha! I like the look of the linen on the chair – your chair looks like it's more open than the green one. Would you be able to get the same effect with not as much plaid showing? Maybe do linen with throw pillows in that instead?

p.s. Can I be your daughter in law?

  7. I am a sucker for white upholstered pieces but then I am a sucker for checks too. I am no help at all. 🙂 xoxo
I can tell you this little tidbit though. I have two wing chairs in the family room slip covered in a combo check and floral and I love them.

  8. Oooh, I love this chair! I have 2 similar ones, did them in an off-white. I like to change colors around, so throw pillows are good for adding color. Especially if you're paying someone to do the cushion, I would keep it neutral. Or you could add the red plaid as just the cording on neutral cushions. But, if you love red, will always love red, go for it! So many choices, I'm no help!

  9. Sherry, that red check just about took my breath away! It would be so gorgeous with the toile. Even if you don't use it, I think I might, I'm so ready to recover my chairs, too! Cant wait to see what you choose.
    Cheers, Andrea

  10. I can tell you have a plan in your head and some real direction. I am trying to do the same thing right now ( and thank your for your comments on my living room). I am kind of changing it up from what I have done in the past and that is scary. I love following your progress. So many decisions aren't there? but it is exciting and keeps us current.
Can't wait to see the next post.

  11. I vote for the red buffalo check w/ toile also. Very classic (toile) with a wild side (the check). I have to go take a better look at the chair though. I am going to attempt to reupholster a rocking chair and I think I may be in over my head.

  12. Your home is just beautiful and I can't believe how gorgeous your armoire is!! I have red toile drapes and red buffalo check chairs, so I guess you know the combo I'd pick!! It'll look great I know whichever you choose. Thanks for stopping by!

  13. I'm REALLY loving that carpet, and well as any of my followers know from my blog, of COURSE I would choose the red and white fabric,,LOL.

    Happy Rednesday

  14. Sherry,
You have the most sophisticated pieces to start with – I am lovin' the check/toile combination.
    The French armoire is incredible.
This room is going to be spectacular!

  15. Your home is so beautiful Sherry! And I admire that you are going to take an upholstering class. I've always wanted to know how to do that, because it can be such a cheap way to update our decor. I can't wait to see your "homework"!
    Happy REDnesday!

  16. Oh, I'm just in hog heaven seeing your most gorgeous home! You have such beautiful furnishings and your decorating sense is amazing! Can I come live with you?
    Be a sweetie,
    shelia 🙂

  17. Sherry girl you've got some awesome stuff to work with. Those furnishings are amazing, starting with the armoire and everything else from there! I love both fabric choices – the white is hot right now, the buffalo check is classic French Country. I think you can't go wrong either way. And I can't wait to see it all finihed!
    xoxo,
    Kim

  18. You are working with some great pieces here so you really can't go wrong. The plain muslin is very pretty and obviously popular right now. It would be lovely but that red check is so unexpected and a fun contrast to the formality of the chairs.
Can't wait to see what you go with. Thanks for sharing on Motivated Monday at BeColorful
