Today Richmond, Va experienced a 5.9 magnitude earthquake. There has not been an earthquake anywhere near this magnitude since 1897! The tremors were felt as far as NY.
Happy to say there was not a lot of damage nor any known casualties from the quake. Unfortunately, the airport was closed and all planes were rerouted. Our flight to JFK was cancelled as they also evacuated that airport.
So tonight we sit at home eating take-out Chinese when we should be on the way to Venice..uuggh!
We are booked for another flight tomorrow afternoon.
Please don’t let Hurricane Irene change those plans.
Tomorrow we try this again.
My sweet husband tried to lighten things up by saying “That wasn’t an earthquake. It was just Sherry’s big, heavy suitcase being thrown on the conveyor belt”.
Wish us luck!
Hugs,
Sherry
Oh no, Sherry! Well, at least you can enjoy some time with your hubby. I'm surprised it went that far; we felt a little bit on Long Island, but there was nothing after the initial quake. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you for tomorrow!
I am so sorry your flight was canceled. Here is hoping nothing else will go wrong for the rest of your trip.
Traci
Oh no!!! Hope you guys get out as soon as possible! I was driving during the quake so I didn't feel it here in NJ. (I was actually a little disappointed I missed it!) Best of luck getting your vacation started!
-Shelley
Oh Sherry… I'm sorry! It's so frustrating when you're excited to go somewhere and you're at the mercy of mother nature and the airline industry! Glad your husband has a good sense of humor and can make you laugh. I'll say a prayer that you get to Venice safe and sound tomorrow!
I hope that y'all are able to get on your way soon! I can't wait to hear all about it and see some FAB pictures!
Oh, I am so sorry for the delay. Glad no lives were lost. Have fun once you do get to go!!!!
Oh no! you poor thing! My son is in Alexandria, Virginia and said he just hung onto the kitchen counter. He thought it was a gas line explosion and said an earthquake never entered his mind, he thought his 4 story apartment building was collapsing! As a Mom I never worried for his safety in an earthquake! Now I have to worry about him with the hurricane!!! Wish I was going to Venice!
Carol
Love your husband's explanation! Don't worry…your trip will be wonderful!
Bummer! But you'll make it out tomorrow and the trip will be that much sweeter for the wait!
Best,
Susan
Oh goodness! Hope you get on your way tomorrow, and congratulations to your husband for having an excellent sense of humor through it all~
Sherry what a bummer but at least you will be off and running tomorrow..fingers crossed!! I believe there are no mistakes in life so it was meant to be that you go tomorrow instead, good luck and safe travels! It was a freaky thing here today….and hope there won't be a repeat performance EVER!!
Have fun Sherry. Felt it in the building where I work. Scared the blazes out of me.
Of course this is all over the news everywhere, so strange in your neck of the woods. I hope you get out safely tomorrow and have a wonderful vacation.
Every trip has at least one glitch…hope that was yours, and the rest of the vacation is perfect!
Wow, I'm so glad the earthquake wasn't serious. I hope your on your way to Venice soon. If you go for the romantic gondola ride hope you ask for Marco in front of Harry's Bar. He was great and after our trip there we saw his picture was on the cover of a travel magazine. I love your husband's sense of humor, pretty clever.
Have a great trip

I love your husband!! Sorry for the delay, and thankful that you didn't have any damage. We have a few new cracks in the old manor, but nothing serious.

I, personally, didn't feel it up here in NY, but many I know did.
Keeping my fingers crossed for better luck for you today.
Hopefully, by now you are on your way!!!!!! Have a safe flight and ENJOY your trip! Sounds exciting! Keep that hubby of yours, mine keeps me laughing all the time too! XO, Pinky
Sherry, I imagine by now you and Steve are back in the car, heading for RIC. Bon Voyage. 🙂 I bet never in your wildest dreams did you think an earthquake would delay your flight….incredible. I was scared yesterday as the house shook and carried on. Except for crooked pictures and mirrors everything is just fine. xoxo
Sorry to hear of your trip delay, but glad everyone is okay from the quake.
It sounds like you're going on a lovely trip to Europe! Hope you have a wonderful time! We look forward to hearing about the details and seeing your purchased treasures!
Enjoy your time with your hub.

We're having torrential rains and flooding – lovely!
Oh no, Sherry! By now, you are {hopefully} surely on your way to Venice! I felt the earthquake here (Upstate NY)…they locked down our local hospital until they figured out the source of the tremor. It was just a little vibration, but still. Hope you're having a lovely time in Venice!
