Giant Clam Shell Goes Home.

You may remember this POST about me buying a giant clam shell as a Christmas gift for myself.
I took the shell home on our recent trip from %#$! . Sometime between dads fall down the
stairs and the food poisoning I was able to take a few pictures!
The shell weighs about 100+ pounds so Steve gave me only one chance to get it where I
wanted it.  Luckily I liked it on the buffet…for now!
Thanks for dropping by and have a great week.
Hugs,
Sherry

  1. It weighs over a hundred – HUNDRED- pounds???!!?? Oh my goodness.

Well it looks fabulous but it was hard for my eyes to stay on it for seeing your gorgeous mirror TO DIE FOR.

Have a wonderful week. And tell STeve we appreciate his muscles in blogland!

  2. I love it! A beautiful arrangement made after a trip from H—.

I hope that your dad is feeling better and that the damage to his home is not too extensive and can be cleaned.

Take care of yourself as well as you are taking care of your dad.

  3. Wow Sherry – what a gorgeous gift ( to yourself lol )
100 lbs – yeah – you'd better like it where it is for awhile!!!
It looks beautiful where it is ( and that's a beautiful buffet by the way)

  4. Looks great! I have a fake one from Pottery Barn that I got 3 years ago and I just love it. Yours looks great on that wonderful sideboard! Unfortunately I don't use mine too often because it is so large and the space at my beach house is limited…I always thought it would be fun to serve some type of food in or on…I think shells make everyone happy because they remind people of the beach and relaxation!

  5. Sherry–I also have a giant clam shell that has been in our family for years. I was wondering how you cleaned yours and also, what you put on the bottom of it to keep from scratching the wood? Yours looks beautiful!

  6. I think that the clam is a TRIDACNA clam shell, although I am not certain. Tridacna clams can live many, many years and weigh up to 600 pounds. They have been used as baptismal fonts, and, of course, beads are made from this shell. (google)

  7. You are totally cracking me up, but I think you are right about that trip being awful. The clam shell is that heavy? I had no idea. Yeah, my husband would have said the same thing. I wanted to move a mirror and he told me it was way too difficult to do that again. 🙁
